Furnaces and quenchants
Last updated 2026-10-06 · equipment card revision 4
The furnace line sets what we can physically take: by size, by mass and by working temperature. Below is what we have and how tightly each holds temperature.
| Furnace | Type | Charge, mm | Mass, kg | Max °C | Hold |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| КЭП-1 | chamber | 800×500×400 | 300 | 1100 | ±10 |
| КЭП-2 | chamber | 1200×700×600 | 600 | 1050 | ±10 |
| ШЦ-1 | pit | ⌀500×900 | 250 | 950 | ±8 |
| ШЦ-2 | pit | ⌀400×700 | 180 | 950 | ±8 |
| ПО-1 | tempering | 1000×600×500 | 400 | 700 | ±5 |
The КЭП chambers hold the high heat for quenching and carburising. The ШЦ pit furnaces suit long shafts - a part hangs vertically and distorts less. The ПО-1 temper furnace was added in 2024 and holds temperature best: on a temper ±5 °C matters more than a high ceiling.
The largest part is 1200 mm up to 180 kg; the ceiling comes from the rack, not the furnace. A cylinder over 900 mm no longer goes into a pit.
Quenchants
- Oil I-20A, 3 m³, working temperature 40–60 °C, stirred - the main bath for alloy grades.
- A polymer–water bath, 2 m³, concentration 8–12 %; we check it with a refractometer once a shift, because drag-out shifts it.
- Still air - for normalising and air-hardening Kh12MF.
Water as a bath is used rarely and only for carbon U8 in a heavy section: for everything else it is too severe. Which bath goes with which grade is shown in the routes register.
